It looks fantastic and free of any defects despite its age. This plate is fabulous and rare. The plate was made by RoyalDoulton.

Herbert Betteley designed the plate. The back of the plate display 2pattern numbers. HB9823 was Herbert Betteley's pattern number and below that ismarked C9444, which is Royal Doulton's pattern number. This is helpful fordating the plates from 1900 until 1901.

Often patterns were only made for a shortperiod of time. The plate has a scalloped rim with a diameter of 10.5.

This set is absolutely gorgeous with theraised gold intricate design against the cobalt blue accented with a heavy goldrim. This item is in good condition with no chips or cracks.

HerbertBetteley was born in 1860 and joined Doulton in 1886. Initially an artist, hewas responsible for decorating many of the ornamental wares exhibited at theChicago World's Fair of 1893. Later, he designed patterns for Doulton and warebearing pattern numbers prefixed by HB or BB in addition to normal Doultonbackstamp. His specialty was intricate gold patterns.
